Battery Storage in Hurst
A home battery stores power from your solar panels, or the grid, and runs your home when the lines go down. We size it to the circuits you care about, explain what it will and won't run, and give you a clear quote over the phone.
When a home battery is worth it
Home storage handles two things. It carries your home through an outage, and it can hold daytime solar for use after sunset so you aren't buying grid power at night. Most people come to us for backup. Some want both.
It is the right call if outages cost you something real: spoiled food, a medical device, a home office, a well pump. It also fits if you already have solar and your utility plan pays little for the power you send back. If neither applies, we will tell you a battery may not be worth it yet.
The big question is not brand. It is how much power you need at once and for how long. That decides the size, and the size drives the price.
What the job includes
Load review
We go through your breaker panel with you and pick the circuits that matter. Fridge, lights, outlets and internet are common. Central air and electric ranges take a lot more battery.
Sizing in plain numbers
We explain two figures: usable kilowatt-hours, which is how long it lasts, and continuous kilowatts, which is how much it can run at once. You see both before you decide.
Backup panel and transfer switch
Most installs move your chosen circuits to a separate backup panel. When the grid drops, the system switches over on its own, usually fast enough that clocks and Wi-Fi stay on.
Mounting and placement
Batteries usually go on a garage wall or a shaded exterior wall. We keep them out of direct afternoon sun and follow the required clearances from doors, windows and walkways.
Permit and utility paperwork
We pull the electrical permit, schedule the city inspection and handle the utility interconnection steps. You don't have to chase any of it.
Setup and walkthrough
We set up the monitoring app, choose the backup reserve with you and show you how to check charge level and what's running during an outage.
Signs a battery is worth a look
Outages keep costing you
Storms in North Texas knock out power more than most people want. If you've thrown out a fridge of food or lost a workday, a battery pays you back in a way that's easy to see.
Someone at home needs power
Oxygen concentrators, CPAP machines and medicine that needs cold storage can't wait for the lines to come back. A small battery on a few circuits covers these well.
Your solar shuts off when the grid does
Standard grid-tied solar turns off in an outage for line worker safety. Without a battery, your panels sit idle exactly when you want them.
Low credit for exported power
If your plan pays little for the solar you send to the grid, storing it for evening use keeps more of the value at home.
You're tired of the generator routine
Fuel, extension cords and noise get old. A battery runs quietly and starts on its own.
How the work goes
- 1
Phone call and questions
You tell us what you want to keep running and whether you have solar now. We give you a straight read on whether a battery fits and roughly what size.
- 2
Site visit
We look at your main panel, the spot for the battery and your existing inverter if you have one. This decides whether it connects AC-coupled or DC-coupled.
- 3
Written proposal
You get the battery size, the circuits it covers and each line item spelled out. No surprise add-ons later.
- 4
Install day
Most jobs run one to two days. We shut off power for a few hours to connect the backup panel, and you get the timing beforehand. Boxes, packing foam and cut wire leave with us at the end of the day.
- 5
Approval and first start
Once the city signs off and the utility gives approval, we power the system up. Then we pull the main breaker to mimic an outage while you watch, and show you the app.
What moves the cost
Battery pricing comes down to how much storage you want and how hard it is to wire in. We don't quote off a brochure. After we know your loads and your panel, we give you a number by phone and in writing.
- Storage size
- More kilowatt-hours cost more. Whole-home backup with central air can need two or three batteries, while a few essential circuits may need one.
- Your electrical panel
- If your main panel is dated or has no open breaker slots, it may need replacing, or we add a separate backup subpanel. Next to the battery itself, this is often what changes the price most.
- Existing solar or not
- Adding a battery to an older solar system may mean an AC-coupled unit or a new hybrid inverter. A new system designed with storage from the start is usually simpler.
- Mounting location
- A garage wall next to the main panel is the easy case. Long wire runs, trenching or a protective enclosure add labor and materials.
- Incentives
- Federal tax credits have applied to battery storage. Rules change, so we tell you what we know and suggest you confirm with your tax preparer.
Battery storage questions

How long will a battery run my home?
It depends on what's running. A single battery can carry a fridge, lights, internet and some outlets for roughly a day. Add central air and that time drops fast. With solar recharging it each morning, a smaller battery can go much longer.
Will a battery work with my current solar system?
In most cases it will. Older systems often pair with an AC-coupled battery, which ties in after the inverter on the house side. We look up your inverter model and check the panel, then explain which setup fits and why.
Will a battery run my air conditioner?
It can, but it takes more battery and sometimes a soft-start device on the compressor. Many people skip central air on backup and keep a window unit or ceiling fans instead. We give you the numbers for both so you can pick.
Does Texas heat hurt the battery?
Heat shortens battery life, which is why placement matters. We avoid west-facing walls in full sun and favor garages or shaded spots. Most current home batteries use lithium iron phosphate, which handles heat better than older chemistries.
Do I need solar to have a battery?
No. A battery can charge from the grid and hold that power for outages. You just won't recharge it during a long outage without solar. We'll explain the trade-off and you can add panels later through our solar panel installation work.
